How much does a GoHighLevel setup actually cost

A breakdown separating the fixed GoHighLevel platform fee from the metered email, workflow and telephony charges layered on top

By Mariam Raouf. Published 2026-08-03. 7 min read.

The licence is $97, $297 or $497 a month. That part takes ten seconds to answer and it is on the pricing page.

The reason people still ask how much a GoHighLevel setup costs is that the licence is not the bill. GoHighLevel meters things. Email is metered. Workflow executions are metered. Text messages and calls are metered at rates GoHighLevel does not publish at all. So the platform fee is the floor, not the price.

This separates the two. First the licence, published and simple. Then the usage layer, where every surprise in this product lives. All figures as of September 2026.

The licence, September 2026

Three things in that table decide most people's plan.

Starter caps you at 3 sub accounts. One business with one brand will never notice. An agency, or a company with several locations that each need a separated environment, hits that ceiling fast.

Rebilling at cost requires the $297 Unlimited plan. So if you intend to pass usage charges through to clients at what they cost you, the $97 plan cannot do it.

Rebilling with a markup requires the $497 Agency Pro plan. If your business model is charging clients more for messaging than you pay, that is the plan, and no amount of configuration will move it down a tier.

And the genuinely unusual thing: GoHighLevel is not priced per seat. Unlimited users and unlimited contacts on every plan. I compare the two billing philosophies directly in GoHighLevel vs HubSpot for a small service business.

The metered layer, which is the actual cost

Here is everything HighLevel publishes a rate for.

ItemPublished rate
Email sent$0.675 per 1,000
Email validation$2.50 per 1,000
Premium workflow triggers and actions$0.01 per execution
AI Employee$50 a month per location on Growth, $97 a month per location on Unlimited
HIPAA compliance$297 a month
White label mobile app$497 a month
Other add ons$10 to $500 a month

Email is cheap. Genuinely cheap. Fifty thousand emails a month costs $33.75, which is less than most email platforms charge for a list that size.

The line that catches people is premium workflow triggers and actions at $0.01 per execution. A cent sounds like nothing, and it is nothing, once. But automation is a volume business. A workflow with six premium steps running for every one of 2,000 leads a month is 12,000 executions, or $120 a month, which is more than the platform fee on Starter.

That is the mental model to hold: on GoHighLevel, the more automation actually works, the more it costs. Not a flaw, just a shape. Design your workflows knowing that every premium step you add multiplies by your lead volume every month, forever.

The Agency Wallet, and why bills arrive unannounced

Usage is not invoiced monthly alongside the subscription. It is funded from an Agency Wallet that you top up, and charges draw down from it as they happen.

Two practical consequences. First, your usage spending is separate from your subscription, so looking at your card statement for the $97 tells you almost nothing about what the platform actually costs you. Second, if the wallet runs dry, the things funded by it stop, which for most setups means messaging stops.

If you are on Unlimited or Agency Pro and rebilling clients, the wallet is also the mechanism that funds their usage before you recover it. So it needs a real balance and someone watching it.

The part HighLevel does not publish

Phone numbers, SMS, MMS and voice minutes are billed as Twilio pass through rates, and HighLevel does not publish them.

I want to be exact, because this gets glossed over constantly. The rates are not buried on a subpage. There is no published rate card for GoHighLevel telephony at all. The cost depends on Twilio's rates for your country, your number type, your message segment count and your carrier fees, all set outside HighLevel.

So: anyone who quotes you a total monthly GoHighLevel cost that includes text messaging is guessing. They may be guessing from experience, and a good estimate from someone who runs similar accounts is worth having. But it is an estimate, and you should be told that it is one.

If texting is central to your business, and for most service businesses chasing leads it is, treat telephony as an unknown, run a month at low volume, measure your actual wallet drawdown, and only then build a budget.

So how much does a GoHighLevel setup cost a month

Take a small service business on Starter with a 4,000 contact list, sending 12,000 emails a month with moderate automation.

LineCost
Starter platform fee$97.00
12,000 emails at $0.675 per 1,000$8.10
8,000 premium workflow executions at $0.01$80.00
Validating the 4,000 contact list once$10.00, one time
SMS, MMS, voice and phone numbersNot published, Twilio pass through
Total before telephonyabout $185 a month

Rates from the HighLevel pricing guide, September 2026.

Notice what dominates. The platform fee is $97 and the automation is $80. Two thirds of the controllable cost is workflow design, not the subscription. So the cheapest way to lower a GoHighLevel bill is not downgrading a plan, it is dropping premium steps you do not need.

What a build costs, and what actually drives it

I am not going to publish a setup price, because there is no credible published market rate for GoHighLevel builds and inventing one would be dishonest. What I can do is tell you what moves the number, so you can read a quote properly.

How many sub accounts. One is a build. Twelve is a system with a template, and the second one onward is far cheaper than the first.

How many pipelines, and how different they are. Two service lines sharing a process is one build. Two with different stages, owners and follow up rules is two.

Whether your process is written down. The big one, and it is the same on every platform. A build from a documented process is a known job. A build from a conversation is priced as risk, which is why quotes for the same request vary so widely.

How much data is coming in, and from where. A clean export with sensible fields is straightforward. Fifteen years of a legacy system with free text everywhere is a different project.

How much automation, and how deep. Every premium step has a design cost once and a running cost forever. Good build work reduces the second one.

Whether you need white label, HIPAA or the mobile app. Published subscription costs of $497, $297 and $497 a month respectively, and they change the configuration work too.

To compare quotes fairly, write the process down first and send the same document to everyone. Same logic as automation pricing generally, which I covered in what AI automation actually costs.

What to do next

Before you pay for anything, do three counts. How many separate businesses or locations need their own environment, which tells you whether Starter is enough. How many emails you send a month, which at $0.675 per 1,000 will almost certainly be trivial. And how many premium automation steps you plan to run times your monthly lead volume, which is the number that decides your bill.

Then run the 14 day trial with real volume rather than test data, and watch the wallet. Two weeks of your own usage data beats any estimate, including mine.

At Calpir we build these setups, so if you would rather not spend a fortnight learning the metering the hard way, our CRM and sales systems page explains how we work and you can get in touch with your three numbers. If the answer is that a simpler tool suits you better, I will say so.

Frequently asked questions

How much is GoHighLevel per month?

The published plans as of September 2026 are Starter at $97 a month or $970 a year, Unlimited at $297 a month or $2,970 a year, and Agency Pro at $497 a month. All three include unlimited users and unlimited contacts. Usage charges for email, workflow executions and telephony are billed on top through the Agency Wallet.

Does GoHighLevel charge per user?

No, and that is its biggest structural difference from HubSpot, Salesforce, Zoho and Pipedrive. The platform fee is flat, with unlimited users and unlimited contacts on every plan. Adding your whole team costs nothing. What costs extra is what you send and how many premium automation steps run.

How much does GoHighLevel charge for SMS?

HighLevel does not publish SMS, MMS, voice or phone number rates. They are Twilio pass through, priced by country, number type, message segments and carrier fees. Anyone quoting a total monthly cost that includes texting is estimating. Run a low volume month, measure your wallet drawdown, then budget from your own data.

Do I need the $297 plan?

Only if you need more than 3 sub accounts or you want to rebill usage to clients at cost. Rebilling with a markup requires the $497 Agency Pro plan. A single business with one brand and no client billing can run on Starter at $97 a month indefinitely.

What does a GoHighLevel setup cost to build?

There is no published market rate, so treat any confident average as unsourced. The price is driven by the number of sub accounts and pipelines, how much data is migrating, how much automation you need, and above all whether your process is documented before anyone starts.

Is there a free version of GoHighLevel?

No. There is a 14 day free trial and then the lowest paid plan is $97 a month. Unlike HubSpot, which has a genuinely permanent free tier for up to 2 users, GoHighLevel has no free plan.
